Walks every week around Perth and the South West of Western Australia

Our Club

The Western Walking Club (WWC) is a not for profit incorporated club with a membership of over 100 people. We are affiliated with HikeWest (formerly The Federation of WA Bushwalkers), this ensures our members have insurance coverage when on club activities. Walks are organised throughout the year, mainly on Sunday.

The winter ‘hiking season’ runs from May through to October, and during this period we offer two walks each Sunday, hiking through the bush in the Perth hills.  These walks are all pre-surveyed and led by two experienced and trained members of the club.

Each week we have an easier walk, which is usually between 10 km to 14 km, mainly on track with no difficult terrain.

The harder walks can range between 12 km to 20 km, and may include steep and rough terrain, with some off track through the bush in sections.

During summer our walks start earlier, and we walk along the river or coastal foreshore and through some of our larger metropolitan parks. These walks are usually around 10 km and are easier than the winter walks.

The club offers member the opportunity take part in the leadership course.  This course covers the theory and practical implementation of map reading and compass navigation. All of our walk leaders MUST have completed this course.  We also offer GPS training with experienced walk leaders.

Camps

We have two camping trips scheduled each year – one over the new year period, and a second in Autumn.  The Autumn camp is usually scheduled the week after school holiday finishes in April.  These camps have hikes scheduled each day, shared meals, and are held predominately in the South West. i.e. Albany, Walpole, Nannup etc.

Social

There are also less formal weekends away organised along with social events throughout the year.

An end of year function is held each year in early December, with a Christmas theme.  At this function our annual club magazine is distributed.

Membership

Annual subscriptions are payable on the 1st of July each year.  Membership costs are $40 per year, along with an initial cost of $17.50 for a membership name badge.

Three walks programs are distributed to members each year.  A summer program with walks around the Perth Metropolitan area, and two winter programs with walks held in the bush in our Perth hills. These programs include walk descriptions, driving distances and the leaders contact details.

You will need a reasonable level of fitness to comfortably complete the walks.
